A lot of releases this week, so lots of opportunities to make the list. Here goes:
Winners:
Agalloch – The Serpent & The Sphere (Profound Lore) I can’t say enough good things about this album. It does seem to be a bit polarizing amongst reviewers, but I find it a worthy successor to Marrow of the Spirit.
More after the break.
Album Review: Agalloch – The Serpent & the Sphere
Posted: May 12, 2014 in Album ReviewsTags: Agalloch, Profound Lore
Any musical genre will have its limitations, and those that break through the boundaries are either destined for greatness or doomed to defeat. Throughout their 19 years together, Agalloch have pushed the limits of black metal further and further with each release, finally shattering both limitations and expectations with 2010s Marrow of the Spirit. Now, after a 4-year hiatus, the band is back with their latest opus, The Serpent & the Sphere on Profound Lore Records.
The single Celestial Effigy, from Agalloch’s forthcoming The Serpent & The Sphere is streaming now. I’ve only heard the single track, which I love, but Angry Metal Guy has just posted a review of the album and given it a 2.5 out of 5. I typically trust AMG more than any other review site, so I find that shocking! I can’t wait to hear the full length for myself so I can see how close – or far off – they are.
