Way too few releases this week so this edition will be brief.

Winners:

Castle – Under Siege (Prosthetic) This is a great doom-laden album that worships at the altar of Sabbath, and that’s a good thing.  If you want to know what I think of this record, check out my review from earlier in the week.

Let me start by saying to bands: when your band name is a single word or topic, never title your album something that is closely associated with said name. Under Siege by Castle is a perfect example. Google it for images. Thousands of results and none are of the band or album art. Simplicity yet being memorable is key, confusion is not.   That being said, I only have positive things to say about this album.

Castle is a female fronted doom metal band from San Francisco that mixes equal parts Ghost BC and Black Sabbath. Add the deep, growling vocals of bassist Elizabeth Blackwell on top and you have a swirling, riffing machine that grips the listener and pounds them into submission over the course of the albums 34 minutes.
