A new blog popped up recently that animates classic album covers.  Those featured below are just a highlight of what the designer has done.  His other work features NOFX, No Use For A Name, Helloween, and many, many more.  This animations took some serious time so make sure to click through and check out more of his work.  The blog is located here.

[Metallica – Ride the Lightning]

[Iron Maiden – Piece of Mind]

[Alice Cooper – Raise Your Fist and Yell]

[Judas Priest – Ram it Down]

[Hammerfall – No Sacrifice, No Victory]

[Cannibal Corpse – Butchered at Birth]

Check out the rest of jbetcom’s gif’s, many that aren’t metal, but are just as fun none-the-less.  The Cannibal Corpse and Metallica are keeping me entertained entirely.

From 2005 through 2013, Digby Pearson ran an “Ask Earache: blog where he answered fan question.  Since March of last year the blog has been inactive, but I’ve selected some of the more interesting and informative posts here for your reading pleasure.

Question:  Since you’re very open and honest about the “business” of the music biz- can you just help set it straight on what the bands make as their “pay” JUST from album sales/downloads and what is Earache responsible for?

There has been a new wave of traditional heavy metal bands coming up as of late that have a strong work ethic, killer riffs from guitarists Chris Segger and Tim Brown, and the soaring vocals of Dan Cleary. These bands are providing a fresh take on the genre and adding a much needed breath of fresh air to the genre. Among the leaders of this renewed movement is Canada’s Striker. The five-piece band resurfaces with their third album for Napalm Records and first new recording in two years.

Many of you may remember Steve ‘n’ Seagulls from last week’s post of their cover of Iron Maiden’s The Trooper.  The band is at it again and this time have released a video for a cover of Dio’s Holy Diver.  Once again this shows how strong the songwriting in metal is.  And how imaginative Steve ‘n’ Seagulls are.  Pure brilliance.

This video is just too good not to share. I’ve often said the tell-tale sign of great songwriting is the ability for the song to be covered in other genres. We’ve seen Ryan Adams cover Iron Maiden’s Wasted Years, and now Finnish blue grass band Steve’n’Seagulls covers The Trooper. It’s simply amazing!

[UPDATE] The band has released two more videos.  One for AC/DC’s Thunderstruck, which can be seen here, and one for Dio’s Holy Diver, which can be seen here.

Iron Maiden’s full set from the Rack am Ring festival in Nürburgring, Germany is now playing online. Shot in HD, it’s definitely worth the nearly two hour viewing time. The set list, including what time they were played in the set, is below.

Iron Maiden’s “Dance Of Death” performed by the Master Guitar Tour at Ortega/Meinl headquarters in Germany. Thomas Zwijsen, Ben Woods, Glenn Roth give their classically trained interpretation of the Maiden tune. Definitely worth a listen.

Here’s a ten minute clip of famed Iron Maiden artist Derek Riggs being interviewed at the Horrorhound Weekend in Cincinnati in March. It’s a pretty fun viewing.
