Brain Trusts Top 10 of 2014: In No Particular Order

So here are the first two releases for my best of 2014 list.  These are in no particular order, as that places too much burden on my simple mind.  So, here you go with the first two:

Behemoth – The Satanist: What does a musician do when, twenty years into his career, he gets leukemia? In the case of Nergal, Behemoth’s singer/guitarist/songwriter, you relax, get bone marrow, get better, and proceed to write the most blasphemous record of his career. Nergal’s statements after being diagnosed paint the perfect picture of his mindset: praying now to recover would be hypocritical. No, I won’t pray, but I’ll hail!

Nothing – Guilty of Everything: harkening back to the early ‘90s bands like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Ride, and Lush, Nothing went from their hardcore roots to 2014’s brightest band in the now seemingly relaunched shoe gaze scene. The song ‘Bent Nail’ should be in the dictionary as the description for shoe gaze.
